Google Yourself Before Applying For A Job

Before making a hire it’s common for employers to check out their candidates online. Many of them have eliminated candidates based on what they were able to find. It’s an instant and free soft background check. So before you start your job hunt, google yourself and see what you can find about yourself. A good tip is to make your social profiles (like Twitter, Facebook and Myspace) private so that only your friends can see them. An even better piece of advice is to be careful what you post publicly as it can come back to hurt you in the future.

If you happen to find stuff about you that you want to hide, you can’t do much about it. Your best bet is to try and move the negative pages about you lower down in the search results, hopefully to page 2 or further away. A way of doing is that is by creating sites on free blog providers or on sites with online profiles.
