But does your boss think you are absolutely indispensable to your company. If not, you’ve got to show them. Follow these 5 tips below to ensure you are noticed, that you are not taken for granted and to ensure that you will be promoted or at least given a raise.

Work Hard

You won’t get promoted just by wishing it. Most people sit around and complain about not being paid enough and being ignored. But nothing in this world is handed to you. You must work harder than anyone else in the office to get noticed by your superiors. While you  may not get a promotion right away, the next time a spot opens up, it’s all yours.

So be the first one in at the office and the last one to leave. Finish your projects on time every time. Ask for more work. Ask your boss what else you can do to help the business. Think this is too much? Don’t want to work that hard? Then I guess you don’t want that promotion bad enough.

Dress To Impress

Much like the adage of “you are what you eat” is true, such also is “you are what you dress” true as well. So dress for the job you want, not for the job you have. You have to “fake it ’til you make it”. So even if you are at the bottom of the totem pole, dress as if you were a top executive at the company. Make yourself stand out from the rest so that when there’s a job opening, your superiors will remember that hard working sharply dressed individual.

Put yourself in your boss’ position for a second. Would you promote someone who is a slob that doesn’t care about their appearance? That messy hair and dirty jeans aren’t doing you any favors. People in top level positions are disciplined and pay close attention to detail. So display those traits in your physical appearance by dressing up for work.

Be Flexible

If you want to earn more money you’re going to need to be flexible. If a position opens up that will take you away from your co-workers and your comfort zone – do it. Just how bad do you want a promotion anyway? If you really want it that bad you’ll go anywhere for it. Sometimes you’ll get a promotion that requires you to relocate to another city or even another state. What if this job promotion means you’ll have to work weekends or work nights? Again, how bad do you want it? To get that promotion you need to be flexible and just say yes.

Save The Drama For Your Mama

Stay out of typical office politics if you want to get ahead. You can’t let yourself be drawn into all the drama that always seemingly happens at the workplace. You need to be the bigger person and stay away from gossipping. The more you talk about others the more you’ll be talked about. So stay away from it all. Rise above it.

So if you want to get to the top you have got to do all the dirty work. There is no elevator to success, just a whole bunch of flights of stairs.

Show your boss that you are willing to put time and effort into your job. But don’t stop there. Do extra work that’s not even assigned to you. Show your boss that you are indispensable to their company. They’ll want to keep you so bad you will either get a raise or a promotion in no time.
